In glazes: The best opacifier for glazes. Adding 8-12% to a transparent base glaze produces soft faience glazes. Tin oxide increases the elasticity of the glazes and helps prevent hairline cracks. Tin glazes can be coloured to produce coloured overglazes. They react slightly to evaporating glaze components (pink discolouration).
