Sealant is used to eliminate possible water permeability of vases and other vessels, provided they are not used for cooking, hot drinks, or food. When used correctly, the treated pieces will be watertight. The treatment produces a slight silky sheen. The sealant is not harmful to health.
Application
• Dilute the sealant with water at a 1:2 ratio (e.g., 100 ml sealant to 200 ml water).
• Stir the mixture thoroughly before use.
• Ensure that the objects are dry and at least at room temperature. For better results, the objects can be slightly warmed.
• Pour the sealant/water mixture into the piece and swirl it around thoroughly. Usually, one rinse or brief soaking is sufficient. The sealant penetrates the glaze cracks and seals them when hardened. If a film forms on the glaze, the emulsion was too concentrated or left in the vessel for too long.
• In general, the finer the hairline cracks or pores, the more the sealant must be diluted with water. For unglazed objects, a stronger concentration should be used.
Note: The sealant is frost-sensitive.
