Description

Bodmer Terra Sigillata
ready for painting

General information
The Terra Sigillata is a glossy clay slurry and is produced in the colours red, black and white ready for painting.

Before use

  • The clinker clay (Art. No. W110) is the best choice for use. The clinker clay W110 and the coating are intimately bonded by the firing process. On most other clays, the coating peels off the edges due to different firing shrinkage behavior.

  • The colours can be mixed with each other as desired.

  • The bottle must be shaken well before use.

  • Thickened slurry can be diluted with rainwater or distilled water. Tap water containing lime impairs the shine.

  • The white Terra Sigillata (Art.-No. 101) can be coloured with coloured bodies. However, this reduces the gloss somewhat. Depending on the desired colour intensity, 5 to 10 g of colour body are added per 100 ml Terra Sigillata.

application

  • The Terra Sigillata must be applied very thinly. The best choice is a soft brush or alternatively a spray gun.

  • For a beautiful surface, the Terra Sigillata must be applied to the leather-hard object.

  • As soon as the thin coating is no longer sticky, it can be decorated with a different coloured Terra Sigillata. This should also be applied very thinly.

  • Instead of further Terra Sigillata an ornament can be carved with a scratching tool. The basic colour of the tone used comes to the fore.

  • To increase the shine, the cover can be polished in leather-hard condition with the fingers, a sheepskin or goatskin, in addition.

burning

  • The fired Terra Sigillata cover is not waterproof. Vessels which are to hold liquids must also be glazed inside.

  • After drying, the objects are fired raw at approx. 980 °C (first firing).

  • Then thinly glaze the inside with the lead-free transparent glaze (Art. No. 82.210) and fire at 1080 °C (second firing). Other glazes intended for 1080 °C can also be used.

  • Objects that are covered everywhere with Terra Sigillata and are not glazed can be fired directly at 1080°C in the first firing.

  • Colour deviations are expressly reserved.
