Clay No. 8 – Anthracite gray stoneware clay with black grog
Clay No. 8 impresses with its natural anthracite gray color and striking surface structure. This special color develops through the targeted addition of ca. 25% black grog (0 – 1 mm), which gives the clay its expressive texture.
Due to its high plasticity, clay No. 8 is suitable for both throwing at the potter’s wheel and modeling work. It develops its final color effect in a firing range of 1220 – 1250 °C. Higher temperatures are to be avoided, as otherwise sinter blisters may form.
The high iron content ensures interesting reactions and exciting effects in the glaze firing. If you are looking for a particularly strong contrast, it is possible to prime the surface with a white stoneware engobe before glazing.
