PCL1 – Versatile paper clay mixture for innovative techniques

The PCL1 is a special paper clay mixture, based on high-quality stoneware clay and enriched with cellulose fibers (paper pulp). These fibers give the mixture exceptional stability in the unfired state, which opens up entirely new creative possibilities. At the same time, the mixture remains highly malleable and suitable for all classic modeling techniques.

The PCL1 is especially advantageous with thin-walled pieces: the fibers work like internal reinforcement and ensure high strength in the leather-hard state, making intricate constructions and free building easier. After firing, only small cavities remain from the cellulose fibers, which gives the body a slightly porous structure.

Important note: the organic fibers burn during the firing, which causes smoke and a strong smell. That’s why good ventilation in the workplace or the firing room is recommended.

Characteristics of the PCL1:

  • High-quality stoneware base with cellulose fibers
  • Excellent for intricate handbuilding, experimental techniques, and modeling
  • Very malleable and easy to shape
  • Smooth surface despite fiber content
  • Suitable for all modeling techniques, including wet-on-dry handbuilding

Tip: due to the special structure, the PCL1 makes it possible to create exciting combinations with other stoneware mixtures – such as handbuilt collages or joining dry and fresh clay pieces.
